Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Are there motorcycle tours for learner drivers?

Yes, some tours cater specifically to learner riders with slower speeds and easy routes. Make sure that an experienced driving instructor is available for support.

As a driving instructor, my answer is yes and no.

  • ✅ Yes: If you already have a car license (category B).
  • ✅ Yes: If you are exam-ready, meaning you’ve been properly trained and deemed ready for the exam by a driving instructor.
  • ❌ No: If you’ve just started riding. Inexperienced riders can be a danger to themselves and others.
  • 🏷️ Highway vignetteRequired to go on Swiss highways.
  • 📄 DocumentsMotorcycle registration, driving license, and either a residence permit or ID.
  • 💰 Cash – Not all places accept card payments.
  • 🧥 Extra layer – Mountain temperatures can drop 10°C or more, and freezing while riding is not fun!
  • 🗺️ Navigation system – A communication system like Sena is useful, as mobile phones lose battery quickly in direct sunlight. Keep a powerbank on hand just in case.
